Come learn the Diski Dance
A new dance style, in celebration of the 2010 Soccer World Cup, is taking South Africa by storm and the dance’s tangible energy will soon be on the streets of Sandton Central. The Diski Dance, spearheaded by SA Tourism, encourages all South Africans to break it down and learn the dance moves ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Soon, all visitors, residents and tourists in Sandton Central can learn the Diski from one of South Africa’s hottest pantsula dance groups, Real Actions.
Sandton Central Urban Planning Process
The SCMD Process
The importance and impact of the Gautrain station and associated multi modal transport interchange on the Sandton Central node as a whole, as well as the impact of changes in commuter access and growth patterns over time, required that an urban development framework be formulated and be completed soon after the station precinct planning and modelling is outlined.
Clean Streets
The Sandton Central clean team work on cleaning and maintaining the district and focus on everything from landscaping to pavement reinstatement. This team is made up of a 26-man cleaning crew and a 4 man maintenance crew. Equipped with branded mobile refuse bins and cleaning equipment continuously walk the district, picking up litter, cleaning sidewalks, weeding, trimming grass and trees and generally ensuring that all refuse and other unsightly matter such as illegal posters are quickly removed.
Safe Streets
Sandton Central has a total team of 72 Public Safety Ambassadors (PSAs) who patrol public spaces on foot, and seven armed response vehicles. A night shift team patrols the streets to ensure that visitors and residents are safe while officers are clearly noticeable to deter any prospective criminal activity.
Gautrain - At home in Sandton
A factor driving the trend of luxury residential developments is the Gautrain, which will change the face of Sandton.
The project will have a positive effect on central Sandton's surrounding nodes as it creates access for commuters to and from other parts of the city, Pretoria and OR Tambo International Airport.
Billions of rands are earmarked for new office, retail and hotel developments near the Gautrain stations in Sandton Central, and this, in turn, is having huge spin-offs for both the existing property market and new residential developments.
