There is a very important need to ensure the streets of Sandton Central are alive and active, drawing people onto them and giving the node an exciting edgy vibe. The arts programme is using various styles of performance art, from music and dance to mime, both day and night in high traffic pedestrian areas and alongside eateries.

The SCMD part-funds this programme with seasons of performances but more and more are relying on event organisers and sponsors especially around the convention centre to build Open Street Sessions into their budget and draw people to the area and their exhibition through the live art s. One such example is the Gauteng Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Cultur who in 2007 and again in 2008, sponsor a significant programme of performance related their existing relationship with the annual hosting of Soccerex at the Sandton Convention Centre.
