Outdoor Exhibitions

The Exhibition Programme uses specially-designed portable exhibition stands to display an assortment of images to the public across the district. These images range from those capturing the work we do in Sandton Central to those of critically acclaimed artists and photographers.

In celebration of heritage month, the Sandton Central Management District (SCMD) will host a unique outdoor exhibition to commemorate the area's development from a world of rich estates and sandy horse trails to a bustling hub of economic development. Using a unique, portable infrastructure, the streets of Sandton Central will be transformed into an outdoor gallery and walk down memory lane.

Soccer icons such as Pelé, Beckham and Ronaldinho have taken a permanent position on the streets of Sandton Central. Forming part of the Sandton Central Management District's (SCMD) outdoor Exhibition Programme, the stars received a warm welcome earlier this week. The exhibition, entitled the OTHERside, showcases 56 World Cup images and takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions – anguish, elation, contentment and heartbreak.

In July 2009, The Sandton Central Management District showcased Nadine Hutton's thought provoking and controversial work entitled "I Have Fallen".

This ironic, unexpectedly wry, even humorous and intimate portrait of a community of poor white people was not meant to exploit and shock rather, according to Hutton the exhibition purposefully avoided the sensationalist pitfalls associated with this sensitive subject matter.

Coinciding with the Joburg Art Fair in March 2009, the Sandton Central Management District, (SCMD) launched its Exhibition Programme by displaying the work of critically acclaimed photographer, Andrew Tshabangu on the Nelson Mandela Square.

The exhibition showcased thought-provoking photographs of Tshabangu's preoccupation with Mali, part of an ongoing project engaging him with Africa. The exhibition is a development of work which first surfaced last year, focusing on Joburg, with a look at other urban African spaces that have a relationship with our city.
