With the increase in pedestrians on the streets of Sandton Central, the growing number of hotels and thus tourists in the area and the launch of world class public transport in the form of the Gautrain, come the demand for better way-finding, and on the ground communication. The SCouts (information kiosks) meet this demand, with the installation of information kiosks across the district's public spaces. These high-tech touch screen kiosks assist in way-finding; provide district-wide information about events and activities, and provide public communications (e.g, road closures, power failures etc). The first SCout was installed in May 2010 outside Marachino's restaurant in Maude Street with 10 more planned for installation in 2010.
